STATUS OF REFUGEE IN UKRAINE

Refugees are persons who do not have Ukrainian citizenship and who, as a result of fear of becoming a victim of persecution because of race, nationality, religion, political opinion, as well as for other reasons, cannot or do not want to use the protection of the country of their previous place of residence.

Most of the refugees are from such countries: Syria, Afghanistan, Armenia, Russia, Azerbaijan.

To obtain refugee status, the following documents must be submitted to the territorial office of the migration service:

statement;

a document that confirms the identity of the applicant;

photos of the applicant (family members);

evidence that confirms the fact of persecution in the country of the previous place of residence.

In case of a positive decision, the migration service authority issues a refugee certificate to the applicant. The validity of the certificate is 5 years.

To persons who have received refugee status in Ukraine, the state guarantees rights on an equal basis with citizens, with the exception of certain restrictions.

According to Ukrainian legislation, the period for consideration of an application for refugee status should not exceed 6 months, although in practice this process is often delayed for years.

Since the practice of frequent refusals to obtain refugee status has long been established in Ukraine, it would be much easier for applicants to try to obtain a temporary residence permit in Ukraine, which is one of the quickest and easiest ways to legalize foreigners and stateless persons in Ukraine.

From the end of September 2017, the opportunity to obtain a temporary residence permit in Ukraine will be from foreigners who will open their company in Ukraine.
